Deciding on a ski holiday in the Three Valleys
August 2nd, 2010
The Three Valleys is a big skiing place in the French Alps. The skiing grounds includes the resorts of Courchevel, Meribel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens. There is a massive amount of skiing available, some easy, some slopes more difficult and some for experts – in fact it has something for everybody.
In the the Three Valleys there are over 600 kilometres of ski runs and many ski lifts, which are said to be among most efficient in Europe. There are 77 black runs; 243 red; 221 blue; and 103 green runs. Also, there are 130 km of cross country tracks. Some place! And you can ski right up to 3,200 metres, down to 1,100 metres. The lower ski areas are open for not such a long season.
Meribel the best place for Brits
Meribel is probably the best area for most people from the UK – not least because it was founded by a Brit who was an expert skier. There is Meribel itself and Meribel Mottaret which are near one another in the same valley. Whereas Meribel is at 1,400 metres, Meribel Mottaret is up at 1,750 metres. There are about five ski lifts from either |resort, and some higher lifts as well. There are also plenty of ski chalets of all types and sizes to suit different pockets.
So where do you stay? a Well, you might enjoy a Meribel ski chalet, especially if you are taking the family. The catered ski chalets generally have enough room for six to nine people in well-equipped fairly luxurious chalets. When they say ‘catered’ that is what they mean – you get really looked after, including breakfast, tea and dinner. Also, the staff shopping, so all you have to do is ski, eat, drink and be merry. A very nice way to go skiing.
